Everyone has an image. An image is something through which we reflect ourselves to society and through which the society recognises and identifies us. An image is also central to an outstanding area of business, around which operate the film industry, photography, advertising, art, etc., which also feed on it. Thus, the topics concerning images are essential and relevant to all of us.

As the protection of image is relatively unknown in and new to Estonia, the article discusses issues related to image rights and their protection. The article discusses both the publication of an image of another individual with the consent of the owner of the image as well as an exception to it—publication of an image without consent. In addition, the article examines the legal regulation of compensation for non-patrimonial damage caused by breach of image rights. The main focus of the article lies in the publication of images by a media agency governed by private law.
