Summary

The use of Latin in contemporary legal texts and its impact on terminology has been little researched in Estonia. Only single articles addressing the role of Latin in the legal speak have been published. Based on the ten years’ experience of Juridica, the Latin terms and phrases used by the Estonian lawyers and therefore having relevance in the Estonian legal system are examined. The results are compared with the outcome of a similar study on Finland conducted by H. E. S. Mattila, Associate Professor of the University of Helsinki. Finally, the author focuses on the errors made in the use of Latin in Juridica articles.
