Summary

Jurisprudence has both theoretical and practical facets. For this reason, the mission of the Faculty of Law of the University of Tartu includes the development of the Estonian legal system. Members of the academic staff of the Faculty of Law of the University of Tartu have made a significant contribution to building up the Estonian legal system. However, the author of the article states that this contribution might have been even greater.
The author emphasises the importance of scientific approach in the development of concepts of the branches of law and individual draft Acts and points out some difficulties that the legal system will face in the absence of a scientific approach in legislative drafting.
