Summary

In employment relationships, both employees and employers have their corresponding rights and duties. Part of such duties is provided by law, others are derived from employment contracts and collective contracts. This article analyses the duties of employees as provided by the Employment Contracts Act. Further, the article deals with amendments proposed by Part I of the draft Labour Code. In general, the draft Code does not propose significant changes in the duties of employees. Duties provided for in the Employment Contracts Act are also prescribed by the new draft Code which further specifies such duties. The draft Code also elaborates on some other important principles, e.g. employees cannot work for competitors of their employer without the latter’s consent and employees are required to maintain business and production secrets of their employer.
