Summary

This article focuses on the basic concepts relating to copyright: works, rights and the applicable law in light of the use of digital technology. This article is based on the corresponding EC legislation and the Green Paper (Copyright and Related Rights in the Information Society. Commission of European Communities. Brussels. 19.07.1995. COM (95) 382 final). According to the above-mentioned legislation, the definition of works remains unchanged. Thus, the definition also encompasses electronic databases, computer programmes and multimedia works. Since digital works are usually created by several persons, problems arise with the protection of moral rights of authors.
One of the main problems which hasarisen in connection with the development of the Internet is the applicable law in the case of point-to-point digital dissemination.
