Citizenship incorporates both rights and duties. Citizenship determines the possibility and reality of subjective rights in public law. Citizenship may be acquired in two main ways: ius sanguinis and ius soli. These principles also include a possibility for acquisition of double citizenship or deprivation of citizenship. Double citizenship may result in damage to the interests of citizens, acceptance of the mentality of insecurity which hinders integration, and conflicts in the guarantee of diplomatic immunity abroad. Further, double citizenship may give rise to problems in private law, such as in the cases of divorce and a claim for alimony.
