Summary

The analysis of crime dynamics in recent years in Estonia shows interesting results. The number of registered crimes increased almost 1.5 times during the period 1958-1987, whereas during 1988-1992 the number increased 3.5 times. One possible correlate of crime dynamics is the dynamics of differences in income distribution in society. In this respect, Simon Kuznets’s inverted U theory is most well known. Unfortunately no statistics concerning property status is currently available in Estonia. Therefore it is only possible to analyse differences in incomes of families.
