Summary

The law of working time and time of rest one of the fundamentals of the realization of the plan of development of labour laws in the Republic of Estonia.

The draft law of working time and time of rest observes the principle according to which the law enacts the most essential guarantees to employees in this field while concrete issues are regulated by joint contracts or agreement of parties at the conclusion of a labour contract.

According to the draft law the working time is the time fixed by the law, administrative act, joint contract, labour contract or agreement of parties during which an employee is obliged to his work and is subordinated to the direction and control of his employer. The total duration of the working time shall not exceed 8 hours a day and 40 hours a week. Working over the agreed norm of the working time is considered to be overtime work. For overtime work employees shall be paid bonus.
