On the Legal Protection of Industrial Property in Estonia

Summary

The author discusses some problems of the legal protection of industrial property in Estonia. He points out the commercial importance of the Trademarks Act enacted on October 1, 1992 since about 8000 trademarks have been filed with the Patent Office of Estonia by foreign firms over the last ten months. Some theoretical and practical problems of legislation concerning industrial property are also discussed. The author supports the view that licenced trade should be encouraged. He finds it imperative that Fundamentals of Industrial Property Law should be taught to students of the Faculty of Law of the University of Tartu as well as to students of the Academy of National Defence and Police Schools.
