Summary

The European Union was the winner of the 2012 Nobel Peace Prize. Today, however, we have reached the point where a security crisis is prevailing in Europe: not only are we at a low point economically, not only do we have problems with a European identity, but we also have an actual fear over our safety. In this atmosphere, the points of emphasis of the discussion on the United States of Europe are changing, because the issue now is not as much being for or against a federation, but mainly the existence of Europe, perhaps even the very survival of Europe.

The author cites the various bottlenecks of the current European Union and calls for defining the nature and future of the European Union.
