Summary

The article describes the work of a legislative body in Great Britain, the House of Commons. Everything that goes on in the House of Commons is determined by definite rules of procedure and custom. The House of Commons is not a place to hold speeches. Discussions in the House are mostly conducted in a conversational manner and therefore the House has been constructed such that it holds fewer seats than the number of members of the House of Commons requires. The government determines the topics to be discussed in the House in consultation with the Opposition. There are also days reserved for the discussion of private bills of MPs.
