Summary

Under the Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works, data are protected as collections. This article provides an overview of new tendencies in the international protection of databases in light of the Directive 96/9/EC of the European Parliament and the Council of the EU of 11 March 1996 on the Legal Protection of Databases and the Draft Treaty on Intellectual Property in Respect of Databases introduced at the WIPO diplomatic conference in 1996.
